February favorites!

Hey loves,
So because February is over on Saturday I thought I would list off all the things I have been loving this month. (No pun intended.) A few items you have seen before and others are new!
The first item on my list is the Naked 3 eye shadow Palette.
Now I know in the world of beauty and fashion this is not new anymore but I am loving the eye shadow palette so much!
My go to colors in this palette are limit and nooner. I have hazel eyes and I love how both "limit" and "nooner" bring out the green in my eyes when I wear them. Plus I think they are great day time colors. However, I would definitely argue that the Naked 3 palette rates highest in color wearability.

The next item is also a beauty related item. I find that I have been curling my hair more than I have in my entire life recently, as pageant appearance call for such things. For that reason I had to go out and buy a heat protecting spray. I was lucky to find this Tresemme one on clearance at target! ( Just the way we like things here at Minwage).
I really enjoy this product because it's a heat protectent and a hairspray in one. This is awesome for me because I have long thick hair so I need something that will make my curls last. I have used this five times and everytime my curls are lasting throughout the day! So this product has been a life saver for me in many ways.

In February I have been painting my nails almost every other week, these are just a few of the colors that I have done this month.
From left to right
As gold as it gets- Essie
Muchi, Muchi- Essie
Set in stone- Essie
Butter please- Essie
Stroke of brilliance- Essie
Here are the two recent nails I've had in the last week.

Okay now we're done with beauty products. On to the fashion. The first two things that I have are statement necklaces I recently got at Charming Charlie's.

I may also be a little late on this trend but I have been getting into statement necklaces. I love the first necklace because the mint color is really in for spring this season! And the best way try new trends is to try them in accessories. Also the first necklace comes with matching earrings, and that was totally worth it for me!
The second necklace I love because of the triangular design. I am also really enjoying the white and gold look for spring as well. I think it's very classy.
This item is one that you have seen before. This is my Union Jack Beanie that I got from Hot Topic. I love this hat, because in Minnesota and you have to have some warm head gear if you have to walk outside to get to class. Which I do. I also have really gotten into the british culture and love wearing this hat and showing my love for the United Kingdom. I usually curl my hair and then put the hat on over the curls, and it makes my hair look like it has more volume than when it's just straight.

The last thing that I have been loving this month are my madden girl black and gold velvet heels. I wore these heels in my last lookbook. I got these heels for a christmas present and I was in love with them from the moment I saw them. They are perfect for pageant appearances that I have to make, because the heel isn't the tallest, and they are easy to walk in, and comfort is nice to have when your at an event for a couple of hours!

I know that most of my favorites are more accessories, than clothing items, however in the winter I love to jazz up my outfits with these items as the plain sweater and jeans look can get old. So I love being able to add colors, anywhere I can!

Let me know what you love this past February!

LookBook: Lace, Studs and Fur.

Hey loves,
So this weeks outfit was inspired by my work outfit a couple of days ago. Here's the instagram picture of my OOTD. You can follow me on instagram @ thestephfunny.

However for my blog post I decided to change the outfit just a tad. I wanted to make the look more of a night time look. So from work to a night out. I started by changing the boots that I wore to work and changed them to a pair of madden girl black velvet heels. and did my hair in a sophisticated side pony.

What I really like about this outfit is that it has a hipster flair, while still being trendy and a little sexy. I mentioned in my last post that comfort is important to me. I find the skirts and tights are very comfortable for me. That is why I have gold/black fish net tights underneath my black and creme lace skirt. For the shirt I used this studded tank top. I love studs, and the fact that it has gold and silver studs makes the tank top really versatile.

Because the weather in Minnesota is still a tad cold, I added a faux fur vest on top of my tank top not only to add warmth, but to give the outfit a trendy flair. I've had this vest in my closet for about a year and I would always wonder how, or where I could wear this piece but I think this pairing is perfect. The best combo of trendy and edgy.

For the day time look I would wear my calf high boots (pictured above), and lighter make-up. I have been wearing beanies a lot recently as they are my current favorite accessory. So for day I would trade out the hoop earrings and add the hat to give the outfit a more casual feel.

Outfit:
Faux Fur Vest- Herberger's
Tank Top- Forever 21
Skirt- Target
Tights- Target
Shoes- Madden Girl ( similar here & here )
Earrings- Francesca's

Red is for Valentines

Hey Lovelies!

So Valentine's day is here. Time to whip out all the pink, white and red clothes you buried since last valentines day. Now whether your celebrating single's awareness day or valentines, we all want to look good.

Now coming from the state of Minnesota, some may say your crazy for wearing a dress in the winter time. However as soon as the weather is above zero, clothing usually reserved for the summer begins to make an appearance.  I've made this red peplum sheer long sleeved dress appropriate for the winter conditions by adding a flux fur pleather bomber jacket, and brown combat boots lined with flux fur.

The jacket and boots with the addition of my favorite union jack beanie hat gives this outfit a cute hipster style. The necklace balances out the look keeping it girly/sexy and comfortable/wearable for day and night. It is important for my Valentine's inspired outfit to be comfortable. I spend all day valentine's day out and about and do lots of walking. And in Minnesota winters, heels are just not practical.

I like this outfit not only for it versatility but also because it shows off my curves while still being appropriate for daytime. What do you guys wear on Valentine's day? Do you get into the spirit? Let me know in the comments below. Post a picture of your outfits on instagram/twitter/tumblr with the tag #minwagefashionvday

Welcome

Hey lovelies,
First and foremost welcome to Minimum Wage Fashion. The blog for those who love to shop, but don't always have the funds to do so! This blog will hopefully inspire you to look new places, find the best deals, and put together comfortable and fashion forward outfit that are so cheap people wonder how you afforded it flipping burgers three times a week.

As a college student myself with a job that pays minimum wage you can guess why I choose the title. There are a few fashion rules that I have been taught and lived by for the past twenty-one years.

1. Shop clearance FIRST.
--- This staple rule leads most of the purchases in my closet. Before I could walk my mother was having me hold her clearance dot find items.
2. Cost per Wear.
--- Now yes this is about finding/creating your style with the best deals possible. However we all have pieces that we paid full price for. This is when you factor CPW, most of the time the item is worth the price!
Ex. You bought: $100 sweater. You wear it: 10 times. The sweater now cost you: $10.

3. Buy the RIGHT size FOR YOU!
--- I cannot stress this enough! If you can't sit down in your jeans, they're too tight. Nobody can see the size your pants and shirts say. However they can see whether they fit or not. I promise, you look the best in the size that's meant for you.

These tips are the foundation to any wardrobe.

This blog will feature clothing that can be found at:
Target
Forever 21
Cotton on
Herbergers/Macy's...etc
Plato's closet
H&M
...and more

Stay tuned for the first look book in the next week.
